The Center's mission is to anticipate and effectively support the Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Program and the Ukrainian Alliance for the Prevention of Birth Defects in all their activities, projects and service functions by providing in a timely manner:
The Center's staff is committed to implementing innovative and creative methods centered on the needs of its users to inspire and support intellectual curiosity, rational thinking and thoughtful research; and to providing expert professional information services that facilitate thorough and accurate use of the Center's resources.
The Center's unique and vital role is also to further promote the activities of the Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Program and the Ukrainian Alliance for the Prevention of Birth Defects by generating and disseminating information through various brochures, booklets, leaflets, fliers, and other publications (printed as well as electronic).
The Center is a resource for the larger medical, academic, scholarly community, and civil organizations through its participation in cooperative and collaborative local, regional, and national partnerships.
STATEMENT OF GOALS
Provide library information services to our users such as finding, evaluating, selecting, organizing, describing, and creating information resources. Provide direct assistance to individuals.
Use a learn-by-doing approach to teach our users how to use computers, the Internet, e-mail, and other resources, how to find and use information in an increasingly digital environment.
Develop technology and best practices for providing library services via the Internet. Build an automated library catalog and a collection of electronic information resources.
Conduct research aimed at improving our services through studying various information needs of our users.
Promote and share our services and information about the activities of the Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Program and the Ukrainian Alliance for the Prevention of Birth Defects. Share what we are doing with the professional community. Participate in efforts to create and promote relevant standards. Disseminate our practices to others. Develop relationships with organizations pursuing similar goals. Provide leadership in these activities.
Develop a long-term plan for sustainability and growth for our organizations and services.
