Dmitri Bashkirov was born in 1931 in Tiflis, Georgia and studied there with Anastasia Wirsaladze; then at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with distinguished Russian pedagogue, Prof. A.Goldenweiser.

Dmitri Bashkirov's name has been known to the public since 1955 when he received the "Grand Prix" at the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris.

The pianist has played with numerous famous orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland, San Francisco Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the St.Petersburg Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, l'Orchestre de Paris and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under conductors such as sir John Barbirolli, Kurt Masur, Wolfgang Sawallisch, George Szell, Igor Markevitch, Evgueny Svetlanov, Kurt Sanderling, Zubin Mehta, Carlo Zecchi, Genady Rohzdestvensky, Daniel Barenboim.

He plays with the Borodin Quartet in Vienna, Dubrovnik, Helsenki, la Roque D'Anthelon, Toulouse, Bolonia, Santander, Berlin Festivals, Verbier,
In additional to his career as a pianist, he is a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, Titular Professor at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid and a professor at the International Piano Foundation in Griante/Cadenabbia at Lake Como, Italy. Among his pupils are Dmitri Alexseev, Arcady Volodos, Jonatan Gilad, Nicolai Demidenko, Dang Thai Son, Boris Blokh, Eldar Nebolsin and many others; they became prize winners of numerous famous competitions.

Dmitry Bashkirov gives master classes in the Paris Conservatoire Superior, Oberlin College (USA), John Gilmore Festival (USA), at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, at the Helsinki Sibelius Academy, in the Santander Festival, in Vienna, Jerusalem, Budapest, Colmar, Lisbon, Belgrade, Turku, Los Angeles, Stockholm and others.

The musician has been one of the members of the Jury in Leeds, Paris (M.Long), Santander (P.O'Shea), Arthur Rubinstein (Tel Aviv), Cleveland, Clara Schumann (Düsseldorf), Enescu (Bucharest), R.Schumann (Zwickau), F.Busoni (Bolzano), S.Rachmaninoff (Los Angeles), Minneapolis (USA) and others.

He was named Honorary People's Artist of Russia, and won the special Robert Schumann medal in Zwickau, as well as the Honorary Medal of the Autonomous University in Madrid, Honorary Prize "Ruks pianister festival". He records with "Erato", "Melodia", "EMI", "Russian CD", "Harmonia Mundi".
