Volyn OMNI-Center of the International
Charitable Fund "OMNI-Net for Children"

Serhiy Lapchenko,
Information Coordinator

The Volyn informational resource OMNI-Center was created in 2000 to facilitate birth defects surveillance and care within the framework of the Ukrainian-American Birth Defects Prevention Program (UABDP). In 2006 after the UABDP completion the birth defects program was continued by the International Charitable Fund "OMNI-Net for Children". The Volyn OMNI-Center is one of the major OMNI-Net centers.

The OMNI-Center is situated in Lutsk in the Volyn Regional Children's Territorial Medical Center (VRCTMC) (50º45.682' North and 25º22.681' East). In the middle of the Lutsk map below you can see a building where the OMNI-Center is situated (you can move and zoom the map using your mouse and (+) or (-) signs to view details):

The VRCTMC and the Volyn OMNI-Center closely cooperate within the OMNI-Net Ukraine Birth Defects Prevention Program:

    • We conduct birth defects surveillance based on international standards; within the surveillance activities we develop the Birth Defects Registry.
    • We develop the Volyn Neonate Registry where we include demographic and medical information about each newborn (both liveborn and stillborn) child whose parents are permanent residents of the Volyn Oblast; the neonate data includes information gathered till a child's discharge or transfer from the delivery hospital (usually first 7 days of life).
    • Annually, based on the both registries we send reports to the International Clearinghouse for Birth Defects Surveillance and Research (ICBDSR). You can view the reports here (beginning from the year 2000).
    • We give informational support to medical specialists, parents of children and patients with birth defects as well as to all people interested in birth defects and developmental disabilities prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care:
      • access to internet information;
      • support and improvements of the "International Birth Defects Information Systems (IBIS)" website;
      • access to full text articles from major world medical journals;
      • publishing books, booklets and flyers regarding birth defects and developmental disabilities prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.
    • Participation in international and national scientific forums with reports and presentations about birth defects and developmental disabilities prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.
    • Conducting telemedical consultations with other OMNI-Centers of the network, national and international birth defects experts.
