State Secretary of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, Mr. Serhiy Shevchuk, visited our Rivne Center. Our guests reviewed our activities, in particular those concerning spina bifida and other neural tube defects prevention. We stressed the necessity to adopt the practice to fortify food with folic acid. We announced that the governor of the Rivne oblast supported the initiative and the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma showed great interest in it.

Mr. Shumlyanskiy informed our guests about future International conferences in Kiev, which will be dedicated to folic acid fortification of flour. Mr. Shevchuk was also shown electronic information and telemedicine resources. Regarding the Newborn Register, Mr. Shevchuk stated that in the frame of this initiative, new ways of information - analytic support of child health were anticipated.
The chief of the Rivne Diagnostic Center Dr. Shumlyanskiy, underlined, that the frame of the Program includes the possibility of establishing a training center in Rivne for Ukrainian specialists in data analysis. Secretary expressed interest in database security which led to demonstration of security procedures.
