• In 1999 Volyn and Rivne UABDP OMNI-Centers started their work.

In 2002 the Program was extended to Kherson and Khmelnytsky Oblasts where informational-resource OMNI-Centers were created as well. In 2001 OMNI-Center was created in "Kyiv Mohyla Academy" National University.

In 2002 such a center was established in Simferopol (Crimea).

Creation of OMNI-Center Network gave a possibility of information exchange among physicians in Ukraine which helped to improve care of children with birth defects. In 2003 mini-OMNI-Centers created in Donetsk (Neonatology Course of Post-Diploma Education Department of Donetsk State Medical University) and Lviv (Pediatrics and Neonatology Chair of Post-Diploma Education Department of Lviv National Medical University named after D. Halytsky) joined the Network.

Child Development and Birth Defects Prevention Informational Resource OMNI-Center Network

The main activities of the OMNI-Centers include spreading child development medical information and support to birth defects prevention in Ukraine. Among others physicians, interns, medical students and professors of high educational institutions, students of senior classes, parents who have children with birth defects could estimate the OMNI-Centers activities during 1999-2003. Only in 2003 the number of OMNI-Centers' visitors was 12506 (tables 2, 3, 4).

• Development of telemedicine via Child Development and Birth Defects Prevention OMNI-Center Network in Ukraine. Teleconsultations of patients with birth defects were held in difficult for diagnosis and treatment cases. Besides, Prof. W. Wertelecki, Prof. J. Martinez and Prof. K. Jones (USA) during their visits to Ukraine consulted patients and gave their opinion concerning complicated cases of birth defects in children from Ukrainian oblasts participating the Program. The efficiency of teleconsultations increased due to special software "Groove Workspace", which was installed in all OMNI-Centers. It allows all the participants to view sites, photos and discuss them on-line in real time. In total there were held 140 telemedical consultations during 2000-2003.
